A Flock in the Tickle of the Wind tells the story of Allegro, a Azores bullfinch, who was born deaf, and how his parents, community and peers react to his being different.
Some of the subjects covered in this book are the development of a form of sign communication, prejudice against disability, and the importance of friendship and a sense of belonging for personal growth and well-being, which occurs when Allegro meets two other deaf birds, Chico, the Saffron finch, and Melro-negro, the Blackbird.
