The British mineralogist John Mawe (1766â€"1829) first published Travels in 1812; reissued here is the 1821 revised edition. This record of his exploration of the mining areas of Brazil proved to be a bestseller, found on library shelves across Europe. It is still of interest to scholars and non-specialists.
