Using a rigorous, exegetical study of the vocabulary of 'teaching' in 1 Corinthians, 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus, Claire S. Smith explores the place and practice of education in the early Christian communities portrayed in these letters, and concludes they are best described as 'learning communities'.
