Agnes Strickland (1796â€"1874) and her sister Elizabeth collaborated on many biographical projects, including this eight-volume series. Pioneering figures in women's history, they included discussion of domestic matters ignored by earlier historians. Volume 3 (1852) covers Mary Stuart's childhood in France and her return to Scotland in 1561.
