Agnes Strickland (1796â€"1874) and her sister Elizabeth collaborated on many biographical projects, including this eight-volume series. Pioneering figures in women's history, they included discussion of domestic matters ignored by earlier historians. Volume 6 (1856) covers Mary Stuart's imprisonment, first in Scotland and then in England.
