It's early 1919 in Montreal and a deadly outbreak of Spanish influenza is killing thousands in Canada. David Saifert, a 14-year-old English Canadian, has had a great deal of tragedy already in his life. Now he has no family left in Montreal, but he does have a childhood photo of his mother with her long-lost brother who lives in Seattle.
