James Clerk Maxwell (1831â€"1879) was one of the most influential physicists of the nineteenth century. This work of 1881, based on his lectures, was intended to complement his Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism (1873), to provide less mathematical students with an understanding of fundamental concepts regarding electricity.
