In the 1950s in Quebec, a shy sixteen-year-old in a Catholic boarding school for prospective schoolteachers falls in love with a classmate. When the fantasised relationship fails, she takes superficial refuge with a group of girls, and learns how alone she is, how alone and closed off they all are.
