The authors recount their experiences in researching and fighting diseases such as Ebola, Lassa fever, HIV, AIDS, Anthrax, leprosy and meningitis over the last twenty five years. Both McCormick and Fisher-Hoch have encountered the diseases in question as singular cases and on an epidemic scale.
