This study of a 13th-century dwelling on Egypt's Red Sea Coast reconstructs a history of the building and the people who lived there. The evidence from this small portion of Quseir al-Qadim yields a rich local story that is a microcosm of Nile Valley-Red Sea-Indian Ocean trade under the last Ayyubid sultans of Egypt.
