This account, published in 1851, of William Scoresby (1760â€"1829), a prosperous captain and exceptional navigator in the Arctic whale-fisheries, was written by his son as one of his 'Memorials of the Sea'. William, Jr, a scientist and later a clergyman, had begun his career on his father's ships.
