For 50 years, the US has had ill-fated experiences in effectively fighting insurgencies. This analysis describes in counterinsurgency terms what mistakes the US made in Iraq; what unique challenges the conflict presents to coalition military forces; and what light both shed on future counterinsurgency planning, operations, and requirements.
