Matthew Paris, a monk at St Albans, wrote and illustrated this history of England from the Norman Conquest to 1253. This three-volume edition of the Latin text was first published in 1866â€"9. Volume 1, covering 1067 to 1189, derives mainly from the work of Paris' predecessor, Roger of Wendover.
