At the time, it was known as the 'war to end all wars', but WWI, sometimes also referred to as the Great War, was far from that, for it was followed 20 years later by the WWII, and there have been many major and minor conflicts around the world ever since. Although WWI was a global conflict, involving all the great powers, it was centred on Europe. The combatants formed two opposing alliances: the Allies (originally the UK, France and Russia) and the Central Powers (originally Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy). This book looks at WWI from a largely British perspective, based upon approximately 350 photographs from the archives of Mirrorpix.
