Synonymous with finely crafted wood engravings of the natural world, Thomas Bewick (1753â€"1828) influenced book illustration well into the nineteenth century. Written between 1822 and 1828, Bewick's autobiography, also containing illustrations for a proposed work on British fish, was first published by his daughter Jane in 1862.
