Upon completing his translation of Leto's memoir, Pope Peter II (Pedro to his friends) found himself transported to meet Leto in her time to receive the power that had allowed her to create an empire. When he is returned to his own time, he receives an urgent message from Duniani, the virtual being created to be the spiritual guide for all mankind. She is taken prisoner and incarcerated in the spiritual world and the Inauditis are missing.
