A former pimp and hit-man for the New Orleans crime family named Marion "Sunset" Puglisi plans to publish the diaries he hid in the walls of his brothel before going to prison. The burglary Detective Holland is assigned to investigate indicates someone wanted to find them before Puglisi was paroled.
It seems everyone wants to find the diaries but nobody wants their name found in one. High ranking members of the New Orleans police department and the FBI want to keep their past misdeeds secret and multiple organized crime factions jockeying for position see them as the key to running New Orleans'' underworld.
Once again it is up to Detective Holland, despite his habit of making a mess of things, to find the journals and keep his own family''s history with Puglisi hidden. It won''t be easy, and it may be bloody, but New Orleans'' best kept secret in law enforcement is up to the task.
