Poets, painters, philosophers, and scientists alike debated new ways of thinking about visual culture in the "long eighteenth century". The essays in The Enlightened Eye: Goethe and Visual Culture demonstrate the extent to which Goethe advanced this discourse in virtually all disciplines.
