The writer claims nothing as a historian, but being a son (the fifth living) of James Henry and Eleanor Jane Ewing, both of whose direct ancestral and many collateral lines, together with their posterity are here outlined and described; and since by a good Providence he has been transferred from his place of nativity in Western Penn sylvania and established in new surroundings in Southern New Jersey where his maternal ancestry in Thomas Ewing from Ireland settled and long lived, it seems but natural that he should take a leading part in making the family history herein contained, a permanent treasure.
